With opaque lyrics and a conversely translucent melody, Tak o Tak is a fervent pop gem, propelled by scattergun guitar, skipping beats, and a hookline of analogue synth. Sharing the a-side is Bardou, a more mystical and freeform affair, telling the tale of a forgotten village in the mountains of southern France.

Here is the kind of sparkling ethereal pop that fills warehouse parties with a sea of loose-limbed shape pullers, amidst white wine spilling from plastic cups. Where guitar echoes off concrete walls and bare plasterboard, and strip lights and cymbals build to a deafening delirium.

Stricken City are: Rebekah Raa (vocals and Korg), Iain Pettifer (guitar) Espen Dahl (bass) and Kit Godfrey (drums). Drawing on the deceptive innocence and lo-fi stylings of Young Marble Giants, Life Without Buildings and Bow Wow Wow, the music of Stricken City is immediate and addictive, yet their songs withhold secrets long after the party is over.
