GOING, GOING ….. GONE!!!
BESTIVAL 2008 SELLS OUT IN RECORD TIME

Bestival 2008 is a sell out! With an incredible line-up that includes indie giants My Bloody Valentine, queen of soulful pop, Amy Winehouse and techno titans Underworld in the headline slots, 30,000 tickets have sold out with almost 6 months to spare!

Bestival curator Rob da Bank commented: ‘I thought last summer was a busy one for festivals and was sure the scene was saturated but I’ve been proven wrong by the amount of great new festies springing up – and I say bring ‘em on..i want to go to at least one every week over the summer. Oh yeah and we sold out 30.000 tickets in record time which is ace ‘cos now I can go outside and enjoy the sunshine!’

And we have some real treats in store for you lucky ticket holders! As well as our infamous intimate and inspiring vibe we have one of the most vibrant music line-ups around, an eclectic cornucopia of sound with BBC Introducing’s tent choc-full of cutting edge talent from the likes of The Duke Spirit, Teenagers and Tawiah, some of the world’s greatest DJs like Laurent Garnier, and Carl Craig, amazing AV sets from Coldcut and DJ Yoda and a healthy dose of pop-culture legends like The Sugarhill Gang, The Human League, Gary Newman and even Chas & Dave. There will also be Bestival’s unique fun & games, some very special 5th birthday high-jinks and, of course our world renowned fancy dress (theme to be announced imminently!) all of which adds up to what is destined to be our most legendary event yet.

For anyone unlucky enough not to get a ticket there is still plenty of Bestival cheer to be had this summer with our inaugural Camp Bestival at Lulworth Castle in July. Encapsulating the very spirit of Bestival, with our trade mark escapist atmosphere and eye-catching thrills and frills, Rob da Bank has outdone himself with a typically stunning musical line-up that includes the likes of rock ‘n’ roll daddy Chuck Berry, the psychedelic costume craziness of Flaming Lips and BRIT award winning Kate Nash as well as the arcade poetry of Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, the indie cool of Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong and the none more hip Black Kids. Plus there will be Camp Fire Sessions, Strummerville, The Insect Circus Stage & Museum, The Worlds Largest Marching Band, Physics In The Field and the unmissable Dorset Cream Tea Appreciation Society!

With the countdown to the inaugural Camp Bestival whizzing by we have a few special announcements to whet the appetite for a magical weekend in the luscious surrounds of Lulworth Castle, including information about new boutique camping action, Tangerine Fields, the Solar Cinema, our sumptuous food concessions and two extra special sets that will get your pulses racing!

First up, marking the point where the cutting edge meets the real kids, Coldcut legend Jon More will be serving up a unique set of children’s classics featuring Gospel and Hip Hop versions of timeless treats for tots and the young at heart, including a reggae version of ‘This Old Man’! Commenting on the bambino beats outing Jon said “I’ve had this notion of putting together a children’s set for some time and I talked myself into doing it for Camp Bestival. It’ll be all your favourites and more but maybe not the versions you know! Make sure you bring a child or leave your adult self at the tent door!”
Audio-visual whirlwind DJ Yoda will be reprising his jaw-droppingly sublime Magic Cinema Show, (which recently enjoyed a sell out run across the country,) at Camp Bestival and to celebrate this particular festival showing of his visual tour-de-force there will be special limited edition tubs of DJ Yoda popcorn available for the young’uns in the crowd. Nice.

With Camp Bestival extolling all the joys of camping out, it’s not a surprise that the Boutique Camping has been so popular, so we’ve bagged even more space in the grounds of Lulworth Castle to offer you even more options. With a vast choice that now includes Beach Huts, Bus Beds, Ship’s Cabins, Frontier Wagons, a Tangerine Fields campsite and even more Tipis and Yurts, there’s no excuse not to spend the weekend in style. Plus Camp Bestival will have Posh Wash gas powered showers, with tea and toast while you wait, for a more civilised festival touch.

With Restival proving such a popular destination at last year’s Bestival it’s set to make an appearance at Camp Bestival. The Ultimate in chill-out areas, Restival will feature a beautifully decorated garden area, a 24-hour café, a cinema and some super laidback action to indulge in. And if that’s your kind of thing, then we recommend checking out the Heavenly Healing area where you can be sure of a proper pampering, with Yoga, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy massage and reflexology amongst many other treatments available plus there will be a selection of treatments for children too.
Bestival has always offered a sumptuous selection of food concessions to keep your energy and spirits up and Camp Bestival will be no exception. With Pure Pies, La Grande Bouffe, the solar and wind powered vegetarian café Hurly Burly, Risotto2go, Gujarati Rasoi and The Sea Cow, amongst many, many other stalls, there’s a truly vast choice of delicious nosh available.

There will also be a Happy Campers area with myriad activities to keep the family occupied, Karaoke with a twist featuring Folkaoke, Karauke, and Hip Hop Karaoke, plus a medieval Jousting exhibition and the Dingly Dell Trail. There is also the opportunity to give something back with voluntary work still available with roles including pre-event build (and post event take-down), stewards, runners, ticket rippers, disabled camping attendants, administration roles and our Green Team.

In keeping with the retro feel of Camp Bestival we are delighted to announce the 'King of Deadpan' Roy Walker who will perform a version of his internationally renowned TV Show "Catchphrase" live on Sunday night. Rock on Roy!! Top comics also join the Sunday bill including Adam Bloom, Jeff Innocent, Jason John Whitehead and Phil Nichol to name just a few. Come howl at the moon with us – not to be missed!

Also amidst the comic conjecture we’ve got a Spoken Word spectacular line-up for you. This area of The Laughter Library bill will be ably curated by one half of the sharpest act to arrive on the UK scene in 2007, Essex’s hip-hop maestro Mr Scroobius Pip of dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip’s fame. The pair provided many people’s musical highlight of last year’s summer festival season, with their razor sharp lyrics set to the coolest Casio beats. Now signed by Rob da Bank’s Sunday Best label Scroobius Pip has scoured his extensive contacts book to bring us a mouth-watering selection of Spoken Word talent at Camp Bestival, from Polar Bear via Gideon Conn to Peggy Sue & The Pirates.

And what’s that I hear you ‘bookworms’ say – you’d like to listen to exclusive readings by some of this country’s finest writers too? Well, that’s where The Laughter Library comes up trumps yet again. Where else could you catch exclusive readings and talks by such a diverse set of authors in such chilled-out surroundings? Top of the bill in our Lit line-up is a true national treasure, author of the best-selling Mr Nice and veteran of many a sold-out arena tour, Howard Marks. Some of this country’s hottest authors such as Richard Milward, Joe Stretch, Neil Boorman, Gautam Malkani and Gavin Pretor-Pinney will also be immersing The Laughing Library in a celebration of our greatest writing tradition. Looks like the pen will truly be mightier than the sword in Dorset this summer…
